Some thoughts from our current Trainee Lawyers
"I came to Maurice Blackburn because I wanted to get my hands dirty, to really get involved from the start. Well it's certainly worked out that way. In just a few short months, I've had the range of experiences that I didn't think I'd get in a year. The idea that graduates are only good for photocopying and research hasn't caught on here.
It's the clients that make Maurice Blackburn. You get to deal with people from all walks of life with problems that have a real impact on their lives. The beauty is that you're in a position to help them because the knowledge and resources behind the firm are amazing. It's pretty satisfying stuff"
"Maurice Blackburn was my first choice for a Traineeship. I saw Maurice Blackburn as an innovative labour law firm that had lawyers of immense talent leading the firm through the challenges of tort reform and offering new and exciting ways for young lawyers to practice plaintiff law.
I commenced in the Major Projects Department, which offered all the essential ingredients for the true Trainee Lawyer experience; the time-poor yet keen and quirky boss, great peers, senior lawyers who happily act as your defacto mentor and legal assistants that are far more clued on than you are!
Maurice Blackburn does not require you to sign over your life to the firm's bottom line...it just wants your dedication to social justice and enthusiasm to make things happen for the people it serves"
"Every firm will tell you they have an open door policy and that their culture is unique, which for me naturally led to scepticism, but to find out these things are actually true of the firm I work at was an enormous relief. In fact if I had to sum up my experience so far in one word, that's what it would be 'relief'. Whilst I've never doubted my passion for, and interest in, the law, it's no secret that the profession has some nasty stigma to it. Fortunately for me, Maurice Blackburn is not your typical firm.
I went through five years of university without really putting anything I learnt into practice, but within a month at Maurice Blackburn I was seeing clients and appearing in court. I've seen first hand our values reflected in our practice. I guess I'm not just relieved, I am genuinely proud to work here."
